Newborn Babies sleep about 14 to 16 hours a day normally and the duration decreases as the age increases. Sleeping is very important for the healthy growth of the baby. But making the baby sleep at night can be a challenging job for the parents.
The Baby needs a comfortable environment to have a continuous sound sleep. Some of the Baby care tips to ensure babies good sleep can be:
Set a routine. Repeat it every night around the same time. This may involve giving your baby a bath, changing him, having a story together and then settling him to sleep. Keep your baby’s room warmer during the day and cooler at night. The optimal temperature for infant sleep is between 65 and 70°F.Light is one way to regulate babies’ circadian rhythm–the body’s internal clock. Plug your lamps into dimmer units, and when the sun goes down in the evening, lower the lights. Don’t bundle up baby so much that he finds his clothing to be hot or restrictive. He will have difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep.
Carry your baby with the aid of a sling or other baby carrier. This will help to keep your baby relaxed, especially during the early evening hours, encouraging an easy transition to sleep. Feeding your baby more often during the day will allow him to meet his nutritional needs at a time more convenient to you. Avoid nighttime diaper changesif at all possible.Always make the baby sleep on its back and make sure that the crib is safe and perfect for the baby. It should not be too hard or too soft. It should be just enough comfortable for the baby to have a sound sleep.
If the baby wakes up, check if baby needs a change of nappy or is your baby feeling too cold or hot.If the baby wakes after he has settled, stay in the bedroom to soothe him back to sleep.Play soft lullaby music to help soothe him off to sleep.Rocking and walking with baby in your arms often settles a crying baby but remember.Gently patting your baby may calm him to sleep.
Some other baby care tips: When using face painting in babies, always make sure that it is FDA approved face paint that is used, to avoid harmful effects on the baby’s skin. Also ensure to use gentle baby powder, soap and lotions for the baby. Rub a small amount of baby oil on your Baby’s scalp if he has flaky skin.
